7 Marks of a Disciple

”Disciple” simply means learner or follower. These seven statements below are adapted from seven statements Christ made about what marks His disciples or those who follow Him. At Allen Bible Church we use these 7 Marks to guide our lives individually and corporately.

  1. A Life of Worship
My joyous, whole-life response to God for who He is and what He has done declares His supreme worth in my life above all other relationships. (Luke 14:26 & Matthew 22:37-40)

  2. Beneath the Surface Fellowship
I cultivate community with a few believers to be God’s transforming agent in their lives and vice-versa through mutual encouragement and holy irritation. (John 13:35 & Hebrews 10:24-25)

  3. Influence with Outsiders
I cultivate common ground with non-believers so as to have salt and light influence with them to “win them to Christ.” (Matthew 28:19-20 & Luke 19:10 & 1 Corinthians 9:19-23)

  4. Eternal Perspective
I see and align my life, my priorities, my relationships and my stuff in light of God’s Kingdom and His priorities. (Luke 14:33 & Matthew 6:33)

  5. Servant who knows & uses gifts
I faithfully serve God and others with Christ-like attitudes and actions and find my sweet spot to serve Him. (Luke 14:27 & Romans 12:3-8)

  6. Man/Woman of the Word
I saturate my mind and heart in God’s Word to know Him and live out His authoritative truth in every area of life by the power of His Spirit. (John 8:31-32)

  7. Multiplier
I invest in others by imparting my life and God’s truth to see Christ formed in them and His Kingdom expanded through them. (2 Tim. 2:2)
